Modifier for HSC Exam

যে Word বা Noun Phrase এর আগে বা পরে বসে উক্ত Noun কে Modify করে / অতিরিক্ত তথ্য প্রদান করে তাকে Modifier বলে।

Modifier দুই প্রকার।

১। Pre-modifier
২। Post-modifier
Pre-modifier: যে শব্দ Noun বা Noun phrase এর আগে বসে Noun কে Modify করে তাকে Pre-modifier বলে।
Post-modifier : যে শব্দ Noun বা Noun Phrase এর পরে বসে Noun কে Modify করে তাকে Post-modifier বলে।

Rules of Pre-modifier

1. Adjective as pre-modifier: Noun এর আগে Adjective বসিয়ে Adjective as prer-modifier করা যায়।
Example : I need a nice pen.
2.Present Participle as pre-modifier : Noun এর আগে Ving বসিয়ে present participle as pre-modifier করা যায়।
Example: I saw a flying bird.
3. Past participle as pre-modifier: Noun এর আগে V3 বসিয়ে Past Participle as pre-modifier করা যায়।
Example : A broken glass is very dangerous.
4. Noun as Pre-modifier: Noun এর আগে Noun বসিয়ে Noun as pre-modifier করা যায়।
Example: I enjoyed a football match.
5. Noun Adjective as pre-modifier: দুইটি Noun পাশাপাশি থাকলে প্রথম টির আগে Adjective বসে।
Example: I visited a nice flower garden.
6. Possessive as pre-modifier: Noun এর আগে Possessive Case (our, my, his, her, their, your, its) বসিয়ে Possessive as pre-modifier করা যায়।
Example : His pen is nice.
7. Adverb as pre-modifier: Noun এর আগে Adverb বসিয়ে Adverb as pre-modifier করা যায়।
Example: The abovestory is very easy.

Rules of Post-modifier

1.Infinitive phrase as postmodifier : Noun এর পরে To + V1.. বসিয়ে Infinitive phrase as postmodifier করা যায়।
Example : He ordered Bina to do the work.
2.Present participle phrase as postmodifier : Noun এর পরে Ving বসিয়ে Present participle phrase as postmodifier করা যায়।
Example : I saw the girl dancing.
3.Past participle phrase as postmodifier: Noun এর পরে V3 বসিয়ে Past participle phrase as postmodifier করা যায়।
Example : The pen given to him is red.
4. Prepositional phrase as postmodifier : Noun এর পরে prepositional phrase বসিয়ে Prepositional phrase as postmodifier করা যায়।
Example: kamal because of illness didn’t come here.
5. Appositive as postmodifier: Noun এর পরে Apposition বসিয়ে Appositive as postmodifier করা যায়।
Example : Bina, student of class 9 got A+.
6.Adjective as postmodifier : Noun এর পরে Adjective বসিয়ে Adjective as postmodifier করা যায়।
Example : There is something common in the meeting.
7. Relative clause as postmodifier : Noun এর পরে Relative Pronoun বসিয়ে Relative clause as postmodifier করা যায়।
Example: The boy who came here was my student.
8. Adverb as postmodifier : Noun এর পরে Adverb বসিয়ে Adverb as postmodifier করা যায়।
Example: I caught the bird easily.
